Integrating Mechanics and Electronics to Prevent Skidding on Icy Roads

The paper describes a computer-based steering control system which can stabilize the vehicle against skidding on icy roads. The operating principle and the control algorithms are discussed. A computer simulation of the vehicle dynamics shows excellent practical potential for the proposed system to enhance safety under hazardous road conditions.
