- A new device has been developed for adjusting the speed difference both between two wheels and among axles without installing any interaxle differential on multi-axle-drive vehicles. The advantages of the integrated differential system (IDS) over the conventional differential system (CDS) are summarized as:
- 1. The harmful power circulation (or single axle braking) is completely eliminated;
- 2. The spinning of any of the wheels is automatically prevented;
- 3. All the wheels can be served as drive wheels throughout the operation;
- 4. Better fuel economy is obtained; and
- 5. Handling characteristics of the vehicle is improved.
The new IDS has already been made and assembled and field test results verify that it meets all the designed requirements. - 1.
