Abstract
Content
This paper discusses the development and application of empirical equations relating vehicle damage as expressed by the Collision Deformation Code to occupant injury as expressed by the A.M.A.'s Abbreviated Injury Scale. The discussion deals only with front collisions. Different equations for unrestrained, lap belt restrained and three-point harness restrained front seat occupants are presented. A brief comparison is also made between the actual injuries sustained by crash victims restrained by Air Cushion Restraints and the injuries predicted for occupants restrained by lap and shoulder harness in similar collision configurations.
