Damping treatments are playing an important role in the definition of efficient acoustic packages for passenger cars with all types of propulsion systems. Many parts of the damping layout are identical for all vehicles including treatments of wheelhouses, spare wheel area, roof panels etc. However, there are some characteristics in car body acoustics associated with the presence of the battery in electric vehicles, which need to be considered in the definition of the efficient damping package. The presented paper investigates the impact of the HV-battery on interior noise related characteristics of the car body using laser scanning vibrometry and 3D acoustic intensity test methods. Findings are used in the subsequent optimization of the initial damping package resulting in various package proposals with different lightweight and acoustic requirements. New damping package variants are evaluated in the lab by laser vibrometry tests and the impact on interior noise is addressed by road tests in the prototype vehicle.
