The V-22 is a multimission, multiservice tiltrotor aircraft that will make its first flight this year. The crewstation configuration, with its advanced cockpit management system, represents the culmination of the human engineering (HE) program from predesign through full-scale development. To illustrate the HE impact on the development program, three representative cockpit domains are described: control and display architecture, display design, and cockpit visibility. The HE process, including associated tools, is emphasized throughout the discussion. Implementation of this process has resulted in a cockpit that is designed with the user as a prime consideration.
