- The Human factor is receiving more active concern in both engineering and design as well as in flight test and certification. This paper discusses AIRBUS INDUSTRIE's human factors involvement in the latter areas with the objective of checking functional effectiveness and human welfare. The crew complement question prompted the consideration of workload, studies for this critical variable in man-machine interaction are also important for the design of the aircraft and associated procedures. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE has developed workload study methods based on the input load (taskload), operator effort (workload) and output result (performance).
