Hitachi Computer Augmented Excavator

The new generation of hydraulic excavators is being called “the Intelligent Excavator”, partially because of the microcomputer that helps the operator be more economical in operation. This new machine has been awarded 46 new U.S. patents, the majority of those patents are concerned with the microprocessor, and the purpose of this paper is to explain this new approach in excavation.
