Abstract
Content
The need for seals to perform at higher and higher temperatures has caused seal manufacturers to continually pursue the upgrading of seal performance. This paper not only discusses the general limits normally associated with polymer types but indicates where progress has been made in upgrading certain materials.
In addition, the interdependence of sealing design relationships such as design performance and reliability are presented in an organized format that is designed to help overall evaluation.
A few statements are included to summarize the status of International Standardization of Sealing Devices with regard to the implications of the United States going metric and its effect on world trade.
