High Output Diesel Engine Design Philosophy

A high rate of growth in the power density of diesel engines has been experienced in the past decade. It is anticipated that the trend will continue with the rate of increase being dependent only on the rate of growth in technology. This paper will review the basic reasons for pursuing increased power density and review some of the requirements for increased technology.
