During the last decade, inertial navigation systems have undergone two generations of improvement, They have become lighter, less costly, and consequently have become more attractive for various helicopter applications. During this period, a number of flight test programs have been conducted on this equipment, beginning with the Navy-sponsored flight test of a Litton LN-3 in an HUS-1 in 1962 and culminating with the recently completed flight testing of the Litton AN/ASN-109 at Holloman AFB. The results of these programs are presented here.
