Abstract

Content: The design, fabrication, static test, and flight test of the lightweight HEGS-20 module, the newest member of the Army's Helicopter External Gondola System (HEGS), is described. A structural efficiency (structural strength to weight ratio) of 40:1 was made possible through innovative structural concepts and by the use of flexible, high-strength, Kevlar diagonal cables.
