Authors Abstract
Content
In this paper the classic textbook Otto and Diesel air standard cycle analyses are extended to establish some basic relationship between heat release pattern, cycle efficiency and maximum cylinder pressure. An equivalent air cycle can be constructed to analyze actual engine test data. The close agreement of experimental and analytical results validates the governing effect of heat release pattern on engine efficiency.
