- The introduction of glass as a reinforcement for mechanical rubber goods for automotive applications represents another milestone in the ever expanding uses of glass. This new-old material has basic properties which offer the engineer a new dimension.Fiberglas reinforced tires will permit the automotive design engineer a greater flexibility in design of suspension systems since they offer stabilized tire characteristics which do not change with conditions of use. This paper covers the status of the development program aimed at the introduction of glass as a tire reinforcement.
