The manufacturing environment is becoming increasingly automated and efficient, but also more complex. Modern control systems need to support current goals as well as future requirements. The organized design of control and power circuits provides important flexibility while adding real cost and time savings to the installation process.
This paper discusses recent developments in enclosure technology, which facilitates the organized installation of components such as fuses, starters, transformers, cables, connectors and PC peripherals. Support of these components in a logical fashion within the enclosure is also discussed. Hardware reviewed will include specific enclosure features, accessories and subsystems.
A key focus will be the introduction of a new power distribution system which eliminates the need for individually mounted and wired circuit protection devices. Enhanced levels of flexibility in terms of product design, expandability, interconnection and retrofit capabilities will then be examined.
Finally, emphasis will also be placed on the advantages these accessories and peripherals provide to the OEM and users in terms of assembly, installation and maintenance efficiencies.
