STUPENDOUS efforts were made in the basic research of guided missiles by the Germans. In all it has been estimated that one-third of the aerodynamics research in Germany was devoted to problems of these weapons.
Wind tunnels of undreamed-of speeds were under construction when the war was over. In fact a Mach number of 10 was not too great for the Germans to comprehend and strive for.
The various types of developments grouped under the expression guided missiles (a loose term as some aren't guided and some aren't missiles) are discussed here by Col. Putt.
