General Motors’ 390 alloy 60° V6 engine is an aluminum version of the cast iron engine used in GM's X car, as well as other models. The paper details the development of this experimental aluminum engine. It explores the concept of the engine, as well as the equipment and processes used to produce it. The paper also touches on the requirements for satisfactory operation of an aluminum 390 alloy engine, and compares its performance to a comparable cast iron engine.
