- This study deals with development of a procedure, which utilizes a displacement based finite element method for investigating noise generation, transmission and radiation from idealized gear systems. The systems under investigation are modeled as acoustic-structure interaction problems. By formulating the acoustic field as an elastic material, the same code can handle both the structure and the acoustic space. The procedure incorporates an efficient time integration method for calculating the dynamic time response.Examples include simulation of the acoustic field inside and outside an idealized gear box are presented.
