Authors Abstract
Content
In order to set development targets for an ultra scratch resistant automotive coating, a field survey was conducted to identify the types of scratching that occur on automotive body outer panels. The survey results were used to experimentally determine actual loads applied to the paint film. For various crosslinking systems, the relationship between mar resistance and physical properties of the paint film was evaluated using an instrument designed for quantitative scratch evaluation. Evaluation of dynamic viscoelasticity has confirmed that scratch resistance improves at lower Tg and higher crosslinking density.
