- This report investigated some fundamental properties of several blended vegetable oils available in Bangladesh. The physical properties investigated are absolute and dynamic viscosities, API gravities, heating values, theoretical air-fuel ratios, ratios between heating values and theoretical air-fuel ratios. The results suggest that the vegetable oils can be used as alternative fuels for diesel engine. In the next part of this investigation, some fundamental combustion related parameters such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (Nox) emissions were computed for these oils. The results show that the CO2 and Nox emissions for vegetable oils are lower than those of the conventional diesel fuel. The reduction in Nox emissions for vegetable oil resulted from lower adiabatic flame temperatures.
