Fuel economy and performance–the case for lightweight vehicles

The influence of weight changes on fuel consumption is examined on lightweight, functionally equivalent vehicles and a relationship established. This is used to predict the effects of weight changes on future vehicles when engine efficiency is improved and drag losses reduced well below current standards.
