This paper represents a functional description of the 1980 production Central Fuel Injection (CFI) system as designed and developed by Ford Motor Company for passenger car application. This CFI system is unique in that it represents Ford's first introduction into total electronic fuel control as well as utilizing digital instead of analog computer technology.
The paper addresses three distinct areas:
  • System description which includes component identification, vehicle component packaging, and a macro explanation of total system function.
  • Detail description of individual component architecture.
  • Description of the control strategy depicting component interrelationships and engine/vehicle requirements. this will include both closed loop and open loop control modes.
