Authors Abstract
Content
Small volume manufacturers are faced with a unique array of competitive pressures. This paper describes an automation system that allows the manufacture of automotive voltage regulators and electronic ignition modules with virtually no labor content.
This system addresses many needs which small volume manufacturers hold in common:
  1. (A)
The need to reduce the labor content in a manufactured product to such an extent that it no longer plays an important part in the unit cost.
  2. (B)
The need for quick and easy change-overs from one product to the next.
  3. (C)
The need to use the same capital equipment to make many different products.
  4. (D)
The need to keep the overall capital investment to the least possible amount.
  5. (E)
The need to keep inventories down to the least possible amount.
