Authors Abstract
Content
Gears and other components for heavy vehicles are commonly manufactured from a high alloy, low carbon steel that is subsequently case hardened for fatigue and wear resistance. Our intent in this presentation is to illustrate that manganese modified high carbon steel isothermally transformed to a bainitic core and subsequently induction hardened to a martensitic case produces a superior fatigue resistant structure in less time and at decreased cost.
