Abstract

Content: An expert system, XPRING, for design and selection of helical compression springs has been developed. The expert system was implemented in CLIPS, a rule-based, forward chaining pattern-matching expert system language. Success has been realized in designing the springs to meet the user's requirements. However, further development is needed for the problem of multiple constraint satisfaction.
