- In this paper Catella Generics AB (CG) draws upon its long-time experience of testing and consulting regarding various battery applications. The purpose is to elucidate some high power features and their potential usefulness for aircraft battery systems. The presentation includes traction batteries for road vehicles, pure EVs as well as hybrid ones, in general. Furthermore, it diversifies into the rapid charging of and the status diagnosis at module level for these batteries. The pulsed load testing of cellular phone batteries is another subject presented. It incurs intermittently a relatively high power output from the battery, especially considering the specific power. The dynamic intrinsic resistance (DIR) is pointed out as a valid parameter when comparing batteries in various aspects. A third major topic for this paper is the safety testing of batteries. From this field, the importance to distinguish between the component and the system aspect of batteries is emphasized. It is concluded that battery testing methods with relevant connection to usage patterns should be elaborated and it is recommended that the DIR parameter be investigated for use as an indicator of some battery features.
