Abstract
Content
The utilization of engineering thermoplastics in automotive applications has increased dramatically since a modest start in the early 1950’s. Major application areas include electronic, engine cooling fan and system components; head lamp and instrument panel retainers; and window lift mechanisms.
The evolution of engineering thermoplastics in automotive applications is traced through examination of these application areas.
Projections of future evolutionary trends are presented based on anticipated application requirements and material performance potential.
