Over the last few years, use of the eddy current NDE process to support the overhaul and life management of aircraft engine rotating hardware has increased dramatically. Until recently, these inspections have been conducted in either a manual or semi-automatic mode. These types of applications are operator intensive and as a result, are time consuming and prone to potential reliability and repeatability problems. In order to improve the realiability, productivity, and repeatability of eddy current inspections, an automated eddy current inspection system has been established under United States Air Force Manufacturing Technology funding. Two systems have been fabricated and installed at Air Force Logistic Centers. The systems will undergo a four month reliability evaluation and then be turned over to the Air Force for day to day utilization. A summary of system features and the plan for system evaluation at the Air Force Logistic Centers will be discussed. Results and conclusions from the various portions of the system evaluation will be presented.
