- The material presented in this paper describes customization of equipment used in logging, construction and agriculture by one heavy equipment dealer in the Northwestern portion of the United States. Customization is the modification of basic machines by the addition to or fitting out of special attachments, major and minor changes to a machine so it will do a specific job more economically, do more than one job economically or to provide a machine that is not readily available. Many examples of customization and the considerations required to engineer and fabricate these items are discussed. Sales responsibility, design, fabrication, accounting and service of these specials is also discussed.
