The reliability of vehicle steering systems is very crucial to ensure safety, vehicle performance and customer satisfaction. Life data analysis is conducted to analyze how the steering systems are performing in the field and assess whether the steering systems can meet the reliability target when deployed in the field. This article discusses about the systematic process to conduct the field data analysis of Hydraulic Powered Steering System (HPS) from the warranty claim data, usage of Weibull distribution to derive the life characteristic parameters and explains the application of field data analysis results in steering product development.
