A lot is being said in the convergence space about “Conversational Speech”. It is the belief of the authors that the widespread implementation of speech is dependent on Conversational Speech models like those described herein. The major consumer benefits for widespread adoption of Conversational Speech are:
  1. 1.
They make easier, faster and more efficient interactions with systems
  2. 2.
They make interactions with systems that feel ‘normal’,
  3. 3.
They obsolete the concept of ‘learning’ a new Human Machine Interface (HMI) when talking to a new set of equipment.
With true Conversational Speech as the standard, all systems become immediately accessible.
The purpose of this paper is to help define what “Conversational Speech” is and examine its meaning in the world of the HMI.
