Transmissions are essential in adapting the characteristics of a power plant to the requirements of a wheeled vehicle. The evolutionary process has produced a variety of mechanical gearing arrangements for serving this purpose. There is evidence that the evolutionary process will remain active and that innovative developments will continue to be offered to transmission users.
