- Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) provides important all-weather images. These images help researchers observe the sea surface. However, separating the coast from the ocean in these images is hard. Near-shore areas face three main issues. The first issue is coherent speckle noise. The second issue is geometric distortion caused by the radar’s side-looking geometry. The third issue is feature aliasing caused by multiple scattering from coastal buildings. To solve these problems, this paper proposes the Enhanced Attention U-Net (EAU-Net). This model is a deep learning framework. It adds SAR scattering priors directly into the learning process. The architecture has three main parts. First, the encoder includes an adaptive local signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) module. This module filters multiplicative speckle dynamically. It stops the network from mistaking noise for real features. Second, the network bottleneck uses a lightweight Transformer block. This block learns global shape priors. It helps the network find the continuous coastline even when radar shadows cover parts of the image. Third, the decoder uses an adaptive edge refinement mechanism. A composite edge-aware loss guides this mechanism. It fixes rough edges and corrects pixel boundaries. This step removes jagged artifacts. Tests on a near-shore dataset show the reliability of this method. EAU-Net achieves a Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 0.9601 and an Intersection over Union (IoU) of 0.9234. The Average Symmetric Surface Distance (ASSD) is 5.7501 pixels. This paper compares EAU-Net with classical convolutional networks, global-attention architectures, and vision foundation models. The results show that EAU-Net preserves boundary precision better. It outperforms state-space models like VM-UNet and large-scale zero-shot models like SAM-Med2D. EAU-Net uses physical inductive biases to separate coastal building interference from marine targets. This provides a realistic foundation for downstream tasks like autonomous ship detection.
