- A novel measurement technique, called DSIF, based on measurements of two pressure traces downstream of the fuel injector tip was recently developed and applied to resolve each multi-burst injection cycle and each individually fuel discharged event. The DSIF device composes: a measurement intersection instrumented with two pressure sensors and a single thermocouple; a signal conditioning unit; a high-speed data acquisition board; and the author's data processing code that directly converts pressure gradient time-series into volumetric flow rates. The integrated DSIF-system allows accurate quantification of the injection cycle-to-cycle variability vitally important for development and testing of multiple-controlled diesel injection equipment, especially aimed at the stringent exhaust emission and fuel efficiency regulation.
