- The paper critiques various applications of personal transport, and discusses advantages and disadvantages of different powering systems. The possibility of drawing on alternating power sources leads to the possibility of a transport system characterized by:- a compact cable network with external electrification for primary roadways- incorporation of a relatively small energy storage device in the vehicle for power over short distances (outside the network)- charging of the storage device during travel in the electrified networkThe application of these concepts to a bus has produced the Duo-Bus. The paper describes the original conception and subsequent development of this system. Explanations of the individual features are given and limited trials in local transportation systems are discussed. The next step for the development of the Duo-Bus requires a more extensive trial-implementation for a period of several years.
