Authors Abstract
Content
This paper covers Dana's approach to torsional resilient drivelines for use between engine and midship mounted transmission. To increase torsional flexibility needed in this particular system, the spring rate of the system must be reduced. This reduction of spring rate has been approached by Dana in the form of a rubber torsional spring incorporated between universal joints.
Methods for determining the proper drive shaft for this type of installation are discussed, and diagrams are shown of the construction of Dana drivelines. Problems that occurred during development and testing are outlined.
