The papers, “Statistical Successes and Challenges in Fuels and Lubricants” by Charles G. Pfeifer, “Statistical Aspects of Testing Fuels and Lubricants” by Edward R. Jones, and “Developing Prediction Equations for Fuels and Lubricants” by Robert L. Mason, present a wide variety of interesting examples of the interaction of fuels and lubricants technology with statistics. This discussion provides some historical notes on the interaction and some brief comments on some of the authors’ specific examples.
