Computer technology has been a fundamental part of engineering and manufacturing strategies for more than 20 years. Today, digital prototyping, the automotive industry's latest technology breakthrough, has given product designers the ability to use an effective paperless digital modeling process.
The various CAD/CAM techniques covered in this paper were first developed in the 1970s. They are now considered to be mature benchmarks for best-in-class master surface development.
