Content
The paper describes some of the important inventions and developments on which the designs of the modern automotive diesel engine are based. A number of modern designs for special service requirements are shown. Some problems, not as yet solved, are discussed, particularly that of obtaining still higher speeds. Various modern combustion systems are presented. Future trends and requirements are mentioned and reference is made to some new developments, as differentially supercharged and variable compression ratio engines.
