Authors Abstract
Content
Unceasing efforts to perfect the Wankel rotary combustion engine have resulted in design concepts that are rapidly approaching the production stage. Previous developments of this engine, which combines positive displacement of the reciprocating engine with the rotary motion of the turbine, were reported in SAE Transactions, 1961. This article contains new material on high speed performance and high time durability of the experimental 60 cu in. model, fuel consumption evaluation, testing of a small, air cooled, low speed engine, and additional investigations of size effects.
