- Systematic studies on the effects of tin in gray irons are reported. The role of tin in promoting a fully pearlitic structure in gray irons is discussed as well as the effect of tin on the physical and mechanical properties of flake and nodular irons. Actual foundry practice of adding tin to irons is cited to witness the acceptance of tin alloyed irons in modern foundry practice.
