- Viscous fan drives developed for Light- and medium-duty diesel engine applications exploit the advantages of hot chamber magnesium die casting. Key design elements were based on material and process capabilities, resulting in cost, weight, size, and performance benefits.Commercial considerations demanded compatibility with existing engine cooling fans and mounting configurations, plus performance and durability comparable to competitors products. Use of magnesium primary components offered product differentiation and the opportunity to advance the state of the art in viscous fan drives while benefiting the end user.
