Several studies were conducted by Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc. (BHTI), circa 1985, to examine the role of human error in helicopter accidents. These efforts included formulating constructs related to pilot error accidents and, where appropriate, training rationale as a potential intervening strategy. The foregoing background and the software-based training tool that was subsequently developed to attenuate some aspects of the pilot error problem are discussed in this paper. Preliminary results suggest that the software tool provides a practical approach for remediating some aspects of the pilot error problem.
