- This paper deals with two major initiatives undertaken in 1985 by TAFE (Technical and Further Education) in Victoria, Australia, in conjunction with the Victorian Motor Industry Training Committee, Vehicle Manufacturers, and the State Government of Victoria.These initiatives reflect the impact of the new technologies of the modern motor vehicle and the subsequent need to establish a co- operative training model with the Automotive Industry to meet the post trade training and retraining needs of the industry workforce.The paper discusses the establishment of a model whereby Post Trade courses can be developed and provided to all who wish to retrain and upgrade their skills. The paper also describes the establishment of a High Technology Research and Development Centre for the Automotive Industry which will facilitate, in co-operation with the Vehicle Manufacturers, the process of Post Trade course development and delivery.
