Development Of The Bendix/Air Equipment RDR-1DM Radar As An Approach Aid For Helicopters

As a fully owned subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines we could use the immense background and the technical facilities of our mother company for the training of our pilots and to equip our helicopters with the most reliable instruments and electronics. Regarding the methods, as required by the Dutch Civil Aviation Authority, the RLD, to obtain approval of weather minima, we were on our own. The main difficulty proved to be the lack of ICAO recommendations for instrumentation, approach aids and limits for helicopters.
