Abstract
Content
The combustion process of a 2-stroke Direct Injection Spark ignition engine is of the stratified charge type, especially when it comes to low load operating. The fuel injector must have 3 fundamental qualities for this type of combustion excellent operating stability, particulary for very small amounts of injected fuel; excellent spraying capability and the possibility of adapting the penetration of the fuel spray to suit engine speed and load conditions. A pressure-time type electromagnetic Injector was developed to obtain the above qualities: its main characteristics are as follows: hydrodynamic balance of the moving element allowing it to operate with a fuel pressure of 2 to 15 MPa, delivery dynamics of over 15, ie the ratio between the maximum and minimum quantities, and a linear delivery response as a function of time with a minimum amount of injected fuel of less than 2 mg per stroke.
