Experience has shown that, even in nominal-peacetime, the Nation needs the ability to perform infiltration / exfiltration missions into unfriendly, hostile regions. A shipboard compatible tiltrotor, the MV-22 Osprey, is being developed to be uniquely suited for such missions. Success of such missions will be enhanced by having an organic AEW/ground target radar system that can detect when the tactical situation is not as expected or is degrading. Sweden has been developing a latest-state-of-the-art, phased array radar called the "ERIEYE", that is uniquely suited to this application. Mission performance of the MV-22/ERIEYE, design and development of the ERIEYE and the integration of the ERIEYE into the MV-22 are discussed.
