New brakes have been developed on the base of an electric powered mechanism with self-reinforcement effect. Electro-mechanical brakes need a big power source to generate enough braking force to stop a vehicle. Most vehicle companies do not provide 42V-based electric power system that could be a solution to this matter currently. To use electro-mechanical brakes in the conventional 12V circumstance, a wedge mechanism with self-reinforcement effect can be adopted to reduce energy consumption of the brake systems. A new electronic wedge brakes that have the feature of cross-wedge and use no roller were proposed in this paper. Cross wedge mechanism was introduced for even distribution of braking force. Rollers that can produce higher braking force amplification were not used because it is inadequate for mass production due to its weakness to corruption by small particles. To verify the feasibility of the proposed brake systems, various kinds of simulations and vehicle tests have been done. Finally the result showed that the proposed brake systems could create enough braking force and operate in stable condition.
