- Cost reduction, performance and feature trade offs are amongst the list of challenges that automotive engineers face in the attempt to develop new products. Knowing your product, its domain and the systems with which it interacts allows suppliers to accurately cost development and manufacture, assess warranty and reliability issues. These key trade offs have the greatest impact when the product is a new implementation of a highly developed and cost optimised vehicle function. This paper presents the challenges posed by hidden system interactions and the solutions that PBR created while developing its future product range of By-wire Electric Park Brake Systems (ePARKTM).
