Design Synthesis and Analysis A Key to Concurrent Engineering Opportunities During The DOD Acquisition Process

The definition of concurrent engineering is still evolving but a shortened version is: "Concurrent engineering is a disciplined process which integrates product and process design and with a focus on optimization of the critical characteristics of each." It encompasses most of the ideas captured in other recent thrusts such as Unified Life Cycle Engineering (ULCE), simultaneous engineering, and RANCAD. It also has close ties with the Computer Aided Logistics Support (CALS) Program and has been called the engineering arm of a Total Quality Nanagement (TQN) approach.
