- THE chief reason for using higher pressures in hydraulic systems is the resultant weight saving. The design problem is simply one of more careful and thorough design, except for the pumps, which present a problem all their own. High-pressure systems, when properly designed, present no serious shop problems; in fact, they have some advantages from the shop standpoint.
